CDC Lancer
CDC Lancer (3662) is a high-yielding kabuli chickpea. In 5 years of testing in the Chickpea Regional Variety Trials (2019 – 2023), CDC Lancer yielded 111% and 105% of the historical check variety Amit in the brown and dark brown soil zones respectively. Compared to the dominant variety CDC Leader (in terms of acreage in SK), CDC Lancer yielded 6% higher in the brown soil zone and 11% higher in the dark brown soil zone. Due to CDC Lancer’s strong performance, this variety is now the check for the Regional Variety Trials. Statistical analysis of 6 years of long-term Regional Variety Trial data ranked CDC Lancer 4th for yield in both the brown and dark brown soil zones among 8 historical and new kabuli chickpea varieties. CDC Lancer is rated “medium” for maturity. In 5 years of regional variety trial data, it matured 2 days earlier than CDC Leader. CDC Lancer has imazamox herbicide tolerance (Solo ADV as per PMRA label registration). This variety has slightly improved resistance to Ascochyta blight vs. CDC Leader. Seed size is smaller than CDC Leader. CDC Lancer has PBR’91 protection.
